I decided to do Inktober this month. Here are the themes:
Today is “poisonous”, and I immediately thought of Iocane powder (you know, from The Princess Bride):
This was a lot of fun to do! I can really see why so many of the artists I follow on YouTube talk about how much better their skills get after a challenge in which they have to pump out art every day.
I’m just a beginner, nowhere near the level of skill of those folks, but I bet this will help me. It’s interesting to have a prompt, an assignment. In writing, I often hate being asked to follow a prompt. Same with photography. But with drawing, somehow it didn’t make me feel panicked. I laughed when I realized what I wanted to draw. I had no idea what to start with, but once I watched the clip, I just paused it where I wanted it and started drawing.
I didn’t use any pencil, I generally like to draw pen and ink without any underlines. That may change as I go along, I’m not making a value judgment on the habit of underlining, just sharing what I tend to do right now. If I underline, I’ll often take forever getting it just right, and the end result doesn’t charm me nearly as much (even if technically the drawing is better).
Here’s what I came up with for today:
I used Sennelier and Wildthorne paints, and some Zig white ink for the powder. The black ink is Carbon ink.
